Product Description
So, what are you getting? You are getting a neck that is insane in it's heft and quality. You are getting a killer Gibson EB Bass humbucker. A vintage bridge. And you are basically getting the big bassy sound of a vintage Gibson bass, but for less. They sourced out the Masonite body production, as I understand, so that is an area that is lacking in comparison. But IMO, the pickup does most of the work here. It sounds like a bass all the way down the neck. Kinda rare, imo.
I want to sell this in original vintage condition, but if you are ready to make a small commitment, here is what I think needs to be done to this model to truly take it up a notch... or 10.
A string tree for the upper strings would be an incredible addition. Tension is lacking as they enter the nut. The quote I got from my tech: $4. Which leads me to..A new nut. This would make a world of difference, as it does on almost all new production guitars. On the Kalamazoo, the combo of the lack of string tension in front of the nut and the less than stellar nut allow the high G to pop out occasionally when playing hard on the open string. Play lightly and there's no problem. But who's here to play lightly?? (FYI, My tech thinks the string tree alone would solve the tension issue, but if you wanted a new nut it would run around $40.)
There are a couple very minor fret buzz issues around the neck but nothing approaching horrible. A small bit of fret work would probably do the trick. Once again, small commitment/ rather large payoff of rock bass dominance.
Here's a bit more on this bass. vintageguitarandbass.com/kalamazoo/bass/KB.php
